Good evening.
I am just in the process of posting a few jobs on here. One is about my carpet but before I did I wondered is it possible to lay carpet directly on top of laminate?
Thanks,
James.

Personally I've fitted on laminate many times and if using underlay and gripper make sure the gripper contains nails designed for wood as this creates a better bite once hammered into laminate. Make sure underlay is either stapled down or using a spray adhesive to prevent any movement, take into account whether your doors will need planing this would determine if you would rather take up laminate beforehand. I've never had a problem fitting on top of laminate as long as subfloor is sound but it really is customers preference.

Personely I would recommend taking the laminate up before hand. It will save any issue of the floor failing in the future. I have in the past working for shops put carpet direct on laminate(no underlay or gripper). But even that throws issues of how tidy it looks. It's difficult to cut carpet to beading/scotia. If you take the beading off there s a expansion gap to deal with. A laminate floor is effectively a floating floor. I know it might sound more work but in the long run but it will be a better finish with less issues to go wrong.
Hope this helps.

James... It is possible along as the laminate is laid correctly to begin with.. If you have any movement etc or the laminate is broken then his can come through the carpet.. If the laminate is in good condition and your door height can allow it then use a heavier underlay before carpeting... Generally laminate is way to take up quite quickly as it breaks at the seems without much back breaking..hope that helped.
